Not choosing the lesser of two evils....

I am gratified to have so many nice people concerned about my vote. The addendum at the end of my last post stated people had a month to change my mind and I invited debate. In the interest of sparing feelings and cooling down the rhetoric, let me restate my decision.
I look upon my vote as a defensive manuever. We are engaged in a monumental conflict in this country at the moment. Few battles are won by dismantling one's army during the fight. Handing victory to the other side is not an option, especially when that side started the war, chose the weapons and picked the battlefield. If we succeed in securing the battleground, we can then focus on fixing the personnel problems within our own ranks. One firm step at a time; one problem at a time. My vote for Obama is a footprint and not a step.

The fox is in the henhouse now; save the chickens.

If things are indeed so dire in this country, it is because of both parties, and by your reasoning, time being of the essence, it should be necessary to start as soon as possible on creating a third way, a way that is of the people and their liberty.

This is not merely a problem of personnel or ideology. The way the two-party system is structured, the "haves" can game the entire system by donating heavily to BOTH sides. We are dealing with endemic institutional issues -- let us see both the forest and the trees.

The "battle" is the Presidential campaign. The election needs to happen so that we know what ground we stand on. Then we can realisticly go to work on clearing the underbrush in that forest.

I am so sick of these people I don't know if I can watch the debate. Obama will grandstand, McCain will be snide, and I guess I'm supposed to care. To me, (gasp!) they are the same.

I watch now for the historical perspective, although if it is as boring as their last debate, I might watch a dvd. I would like to see if McCain will meet Obama's eyes this time. That's about it.

I watched the Graduate instead of the debate; much more fun, I'm sure.

ELAINE! ELAINE! ELAINE!

I love that movie "Mrs. Robinson?".
McCain did try to look at Obama but he blinked so much one would have thought he was afraid he would turn to stone. Otherwise, pretty boilerplate stuff. I did note that McCain seems to have some sort of breathing problem.

I am sure you did. Must be all those years of cigarette smoking, although I heard his wife made him quit before she approved his run for the presidency....oh wait, silly me, that was obama who smoked for even longer than he sat in wright's church, apparently wearing his headphones but I am sure he is just fine.

I'm still waiting for Obama to gain ten pounds from quitting smoking. But since he is one of the fittest men in America I guess that will never happen. ..

ainnj, you are a classic!
I think it was a nervous breath. thing. He was holding his breath or something like that. I do it myself when I am stressed out. Headphones? Rev. Wright? That's a mighty big leap from smoking, my friend.

When I quit smoking I weighed 189 and 4 months later I weighed 159. I was able to exercise more often and for a longer duration.
Did anyone take a shot everytime McCain said "my friend(s)"? And what happened to the maverick?
